Hereby Make Protest
The Aborigines Progressive Association (APA) burst onto the political landscape on the 26th January 1938 when an all-Aboriginal Conference declared the sesquicentenary of Australia a National Day of Mourning. Formed by Jack Patten with the support of William Cooper and William Ferguson, the APA was inspired by an earlier chapter established by Fred Maynard (The Australian Aborigines Progressive Association–1924-1927). This exhibition will bring together new oral histories, commissioned artwork and personal collections to tell the story of an important moment in Australian history.
