A-SPACE ON CLEVERLAND

LOVE and its consequences is central to this new body of work by Karla Dickens but don’t expect to see overt exclamations of pure romance. You may well laugh at her framed discarded cotton collard dress with SLUT beautifully beaded across its bodice with large pink YOURS FOREVER tattoo painted on the protective glass. However, as in all her works, the double edge of fanstay and sometimes harsh realities of relationships is what seriously is being explored. Scarves, aprons, dresses, gloves and a collection of dolls are all provocatively labelled and / or tattooed to articulate the many shades of love- the abusive to the sumlime from the perspective of a woman.

In this her second solo exhibition at A-Space on Cleverand, Karla Dickens once again uniquely pushes the boundaries and deserves to attract the widest possible audience.
