Locked, Lost, and Lonely …

Locked, Lost, and Lonely …

Locked, Lost and Lonely is the title of the piece ( Aboriginal Women in Vintage Bird Cage) it is also the title of the window install @ Lismore Regional Gallery as part of the Show My Teenage Years, curator Djon Mundine.

The caged woman is in good company as The Black Madonna surrounds her, hopefully giving her strength and courage. At the bottom of the cage at the woman feet are black feathers, crow feathers, symbolic of her ansetors, of their pain and struggles. In The Black Madonna’s Altar and mirrored on her grab are crow. At the feet of both women are a number of smaller Black Madonna’s, maybe a sign of her children and inner The Black Madonna they also possess.
The ceramic pieces were made earlier this year with Ishta Wilson for our show Mother of All @ Tweed Regional Gallery.
