There’s no place like Home

Description

As i enjoy the process of reshaping and recreating my own exaggerated and unlikely Fairytales I watched The Wizard of Oz with my daughter in a new light, it would be my next playful adventure.

Dorothy is a child without parents.

Something in Dorothy awakes after a traumatic event, she finds herself in another world nothing resembling the world as she has known it, the rules have been changed every step of the lost and confusing now yellow road. The land of Oz for Dorothy has so many parallels to the Indigenous story of displacement, trails and Trauma. I painted Dorothy not so white, the now Indigenous girl sets sail on her fairytale adventure, above Dorothy’s path are the many delightful faces of children from the desert symbolic of Australia as home.

In this happy and unlikely Fairytale ending the Indigenous Dorothy returns home, wrapped in loving arms.
